Not a Doctor. Not a Therapist. I'm a Perimenopause Coach. Here's Why That Matters.

Online coaching makes it convenient. Studies show its effective.

I get this question a lot: what does a perimenopause coach actually do, and why would I need one?

Let me start with what I'm not. I don't diagnose. I don't prescribe. I don't treat. If you're looking for a medical opinion, I'm not it. I work alongside doctors, who do diagnose and prescribe.

I am is your relentless advocate for getting the best perimenopause care possible, and feeling like yourself again. Here's the case for why that role exists, and why the data backs it up.

The Gap in Care Is Real and It's Not About Bad Doctors

Only 34% of women hear about perimenopause in a medical setting, and 1 in 5 report struggling to find reliable information at all (Carrot, The Menopause Report, 2025). A UCL-led survey of more than 6,000 women found that just 2% felt well-informed before entering perimenopause, with nearly two-thirds saying they'd received no information at all (Harper et al., Women's Health, 2024). In the UK, only 54% of women seek medical input for menopausal symptoms at all, despite more than 80% experiencing them (Huang, Goodship, Webber et al., BMC Women's Health, 2023).

These numbers aren't an indictment on individual clinicians. They're a symptom of a structural problem: a 10-minute appointment cannot cover the physical, psychological, and identity shifts that perimenopause brings.

Most doctors weren't trained to spend that time even if they had it. Menopause education is still a gap in a lot of medical curricula. That's the space perimenopause coaching exists to fill.

I work with English-speaking women here in Munich and across the world to help them understand what is happening in their bodies and the treatments their doctor prescribes. I take the time to understand what lifesyle modifications make sense for each women, so that she feels the best possible.

What the Research Actually Shows

There's evidence to back the positive impact of coaching. A randomised controlled trial published in Menopause: The Journal of The Menopause Society found that personalised health coaching significantly reduced symptom scores, improved depression, and increased quality of life within four months. A 2024 meta-analysis of 30 studies on psychosocial interventions confirmed similar effects on mood and quality of life.

The mechanism isn't mysterious. Coaching works because it gives women what a short medical appointment structurally cannot: time, repetition, and accountability.

What This Looks Like in Practice

As a coach, here's what I actually do with the women I work with:

I help you understand your own physiology and track your symptoms and cycle, so that the limited time you get with your doctor is used well. Walking into an appointment with data on what's happening to you changes the conversation. It moves you from "I don't feel like myself" to "here's exactly what's changed, and here's what I want to ask about."

I also help you build sustainable change in the three areas most linked to better outcomes:

  • nutrition, movement, and stress reduction. Not a generic wellness plan but changes tailored to what perimenopause is actually doing to your body.

  • I make sure you are supported, held accountable, and less alone in it. Perimenopause can be isolating, especially if you're navigating it away from your home country's healthcare system and support network, as many of the expat women I work with in Munich are.

To Be Clear: This Isn't a Replacement for Medical Care

Coaching doesn't replace HRT or clinical care. I am a huge proponent of women getting the best possibe medical care as the foundation of managing their symptoms and future proofing their bodies.

Clinicians who refer a patient to a qualified coach aren't handing her off. They're giving her support for everything the appointment didn't have time to cover and setting her up to make the most of the appointments still to come.

That division of labor is the whole point. Your doctor manages the clinical picture: diagnosis, prescriptions, treatment decisions. I help you become the expert on your own body, so you can walk into that relationship informed, prepared, and able to advocate for yourself. Then we work together to implement lifestyle changes that complement your medical treatment. That's the transformation I aim for with every client: not just symptom relief, but the confidence and clarity to get the care you actually need.
